About Us
Barbara Tyler, CPA
Barbara Tyler considers herself a local Central Oregonian having lived and run her accounting practice in Bend for more than 25 years. She is a graduate of Marylhurst University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in business management with an emphasis in accounting in 1990. In 2008 Barbara extended her skills by obtaining a certified specialist designation in estates and trusts tax return preparation.
Barbara loves the challenge of her work. She appreciates the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of her clients by providing sound and prudent tax advice to individuals and businesses. In addition, she provides small business consulting, estate and trust work. She appreciates the opportunity to work closely and personally with her clients and values the long term relationships that develop.
Barbara loves living in Central Oregon. In 2011 she joined the Bend Area Habitat For Humanity board of directors which gives her an opportunity to give back to the community that has been such a wonderful place to live and raise her family. When Barbara is not working she spends as much time as she can out of doors, hiking or paddling in the Cascade Mountains with family and friends.
Matt Carroll, CPA
Matt has been entrenched in accounting for nearly a decade and he's been working with Barbara Tyler since 2005. Matt holds an Oregon CPA license and a Bachelor of Science degree in business with an emphasis in accounting from Linfield College.
Matt is a Bend native and he brings the small town spirit into his practice. He enjoys building close working relationships with his clients and pays special, individual attention to their growth and education. His areas of expertise include individual and small business taxation, business consulting, QuickBooks training, bookkeeping and payroll.
In addition to his work at Tyler & Carroll, Matt is also an active community and family member. He and his wife Shannon have two little boys, Silas and Jonah, who ensure that never a dull moment shall pass. In the off season, the Carrolls enjoy biking, hiking, and simply getting out there to do just about anything.
Dennis
Dennis has lived in Bend since 1979 and has served as a CPA since then. He has a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science in Business from San Jose State University. He has taught business courses at the university and community college levels. Formal and informal continuing education is ongoing.
Dennis primarily works in business taxation, including real estate transactions and business sales and purchases.
He is lucky to have his wife, Jackie, and two happy children who are busy with their families. Of course, that means grandchildren. Dennis contributes to the community by helping nonprofits with accounting and tax issues. Also, he is a Nordic ski coach at Bend Senior High School and contributes time to the local mountain bike trails.
Merle
Merle, born & raised an Oregonian, had the incredible experience of having spent 10 years in Alaska (all his teenage years with no TV, no telephone, and no newspaper). He met his wife of 33 yrs the very 1st day he arrived in Eugene to attend college. He & Mary have 3 wonderful kids and their first grandchild (of many ☺) is due in July 2013.
Merle is an Enrolled Agent (tax specialist) along with duties as business manager, bookkeeping and payroll. He relocated here to Bend for his next 15 years leading toward retirement. Merle’s passion for developing production and business management systems was honed during his twenty years as the owner of a wood products business in Eugene. His fluency in QuickBooks, MS Excel and Access has resulted in his developing some introductory and advanced curriculum for these programs. So after tax season he hopes to offer several introductory classes for those interested:
- MS Excel tutorial of basics or advanced sheet formatting
- QuickBooks Pro 13 setup (chart of accounts, acct payable, invoicing, customizing).
- MS Access Database setup or the MS Outlook email program.
Kate
Kate is new to the office this year. She has lived in Bend for the past 15 years working as an office manager for a medical practice. She has two grown sons, one of whom also lives in Bend. 2013 will make her a first time Grandmother! She volunteers on the Saving Grace hotline and she loves biking in the summer and skate skiing in the winter, so she thinks Bend is the very best place she could ever be.
